Activities at the Weekend Experience

Opening Day

After checking in at the Capella booth, there is wifi service available for any online activities you may want to pursue. There is usually a conversation with University leaders at mid-afternoon.

See the iGuide PhD Schedule at a Glance for details.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will give a three-minute oral presentation of the research topic you prepared in the Track 1 Courseroom.

During much of the day, you will be working on the literature research for your research topic. This will prepare you for a second presentation on your research problem statement. During the day, you will have ample opportunity to consult with faculty instructors and to interact with your colleagues to strengthen your conceptualization of your topic and build toward a successful research problem statement. There will be a morning and an afternoon coffee break, and an hour for lunch, provided by the University.

Day 3

Once again, much of the day will focus on establishing the scientific merit of your study by developing a strong literature review. You will work toward making a presentation of your work to date in consultation with colleagues and the faculty instructor later in the day. There will be a morning and an afternoon coffee break, and an hour for lunch provided by the University.

In the evening of Day 3, you will work on creating a presentation poster showing the completed work to date, in preparation for tomorrow's Poster Presentation session.

Day 4

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. sharp, each of you will make a five-minute oral presentation to the whole group, sharing the results of your work during the Courseroom, the Weekend Experience, and (if your school has one) the companion course for this Track. You should strive to make this as good an oral presentation as you can; review the grading rubric that will be used to evaluate your presentation to see the criteria. After your presentation, you will be able to answer questions from the audience and you will receive electronic feedback from all your fellow learners and the faculty instructors in attendance. You will use this feedback to further improve your conceptualization of your research ideas in the Final Assessment assignment back in the courseroom.

The order of presentations will be announced at 8:00 a.m., and each learner will have the chance to be the first presentation of the morning, so do not be late!
