Colloquium Course Room Expectations

Welcome to your Capella University Dissertation Research Seminar course room! The Dissertation Research Seminar course room is the first component of your Dissertation Research Seminar track requirements. The second component is the completion of the Residency, and the third component is completing a final  assignment in the course room. After successfully completing all three components of the Dissertation Research Seminar, you will receive a satisfactory grade for the track.

A faculty member from your school will facilitate the course room for approximately five weeks. He or she will be present to guide you through this important material and to answer questions regarding the Dissertation Research Seminar requirement.

You should complete the online Dissertation Research Seminar course, except for Unit 10, during the time prior to the beginning of the Residency. This is essential if you are to be able to complete the face-to-face experience successfully. However, you will have access to reenter and review the information in the course room during and after the Residency.

Keep in mind that everything in the Dissertation Research Seminar course room is important for you to review and complete. There are several presentations for you to review in the Dissertation Research Seminar course room. Most of these presentations have accompanying tasks. You are expected to review and complete the material on your own and will be held responsible for knowing the material. We strongly encourage you to look through all presentations, as they contain important information that you will need in preparation for the Residency and your doctoral program. Successfully completing all activities and assignments is required before attending the Residency. Failure to complete all activities and assignments could result in being required to retake the track at a later time.

The Residency is the second component of the Dissertation Research Seminar which you have prepared for in the Dissertation Research Seminar courseroom. It is very important to remember that checking in and checking out of the Residency is crucial in order to receive a satisfactory grade for your Dissertation Research Seminar track.

Capella only allows early departures in extremely serious and unpredictable circumstances. Specifically, early airline reservations are not acceptable as a reason to leave early. Failure to check in or check out on time, including unexcused early departure, will result in an unsatisfactory grade for your Dissertation Research Seminar track and may require you to retake the track.

After your Residency is finished, you will once again go back into the Dissertation Research Seminar courseroom and submit your assignment, which is the third and final component of your Dissertation Research Seminar track. You will be given one week after the Residency to finish and submit this assignment. Failure to do so will result in an unsatisfactory grade for your Dissertation Research Seminar track and may require you to retake the track.

After the final assignments are completed, the facilitator of the Dissertation Research Seminar course room will review and submit your grade, which will be posted to your iGuide page in approximately 10 business days. This signals completion of your Dissertation Research Seminar track.

Again, welcome to your Dissertation Research Seminar courseroom. We look forward to working with you here and at the Residency.
